Vampire Survivors: First Three Evolutions to Rush

New Vampire Survivors runs get easier the moment you land your first evolutions. You do not need every recipe memorized — you need a short priority list so chests after the level gate turn into power spikes instead of random upgrades.

This hub is the decision guide. For the full rules, see how to evolve weapons. For rankings, see the weapons tier list.

Evolution checklist (every run)

  1. Max the base weapon.
  2. Pick up the matching passive (level it if that pair requires it).
  3. Open a chest once you are past the usual level gate (commonly after level 80 on standard stages).
  4. Leave room in your build plan — do not fill every slot before the passive you need appears.

The first three evolutions to rush

These three teach the game and cover heal, aim, and clear:

1. Whip → Bloody Tear (Hollow Heart)

Self-heal on hit keeps early mistakes from ending the run. Grab Hollow Heart early when you plan Whip.

2. Magic Wand → Holy Wand (Empty Tome)

Auto-aim plus cooldown reduction is the "I can finally look at the map" evolution. Prioritize Empty Tome whenever Wand is in the build.

3. Knife → Thousand Edge (Bracer)

Projectile volume clears sides and bosses. Bracer is the cooldown engine for this path.

If the stage or character wants area instead of knives, swap #3 for Axe → Death Spiral with Candelabrador, or Santa Water → La Borra with Attractorb.

Suggested early passive priority

When the chest / level-up offers noise, bias toward passives that unlock the first evolutions:

PassiveWhy it matters early
Empty TomeCooldown; enables Holy Wand
Hollow HeartMax HP; enables Bloody Tear
BracerSpeed; enables Thousand Edge
SpinachFlat Might for everything
AttractorbMagnet; helps find the rest
CandelabradorArea; Death Spiral path

Common early-run mistakes

  • Taking four random weapons before any evolution passive.
  • Ignoring Attractorb, then spending the mid-game hunting one missing item.
  • Opening chests before the level gate and wondering why no evolution appeared.
  • Over-investing in damage passives while sitting at one HP with no heal evolution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need exactly three evolutions?

No. One strong evolution (especially Bloody Tear or Holy Wand) already changes the run. Three is a beginner target, not a hard rule.

What if Hollow Heart never shows up?

Pivot. Holy Wand or Thousand Edge still carry. Or take Armor / Wings and play safer until the heal path appears.

Does every stage use the same level-80 chest rule?

Most standard stages follow the familiar chest gate, but modifiers and some stages differ. If a chest does not evolve you, keep fighting bosses and timed chests after you have the pair ready.
